The Metropolitan (DC) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated was organized in 1979 to provide service to Washington, D.C., and the Metropolitan area. Our scholarship program provides scholarship opportunities and mentoring support to local African American college students entering their third or fourth year. The awardees should demonstrate academic achievement, possess higher education goals, and have a record of community service. Please contact Scholarship@metrodclinks.org with any questions.

Eligibility:

  1. Rising junior or senior college student attending an accredited HBCU college/university.

  2. Must be a graduate of a District of Columbia, Maryland, or Virginia High School (limited to Montgomery, Prince Georges, Arlington, or Alexandria Counties).

  3. Demonstrated academic achievement and community engagement.

    Note: Immediate family of members of The Links, Incorporated are not eligible to participate in the scholarship program.

Deadline:

The complete application package must be received by March 31, 2023. Packages submitted after the deadline will not be accepted. The requested information must be submitted electronically to Scholarship@metrodclinks.org.

Awards:

Scholarship award in the amount of $5,000.00 for each awardee will be sent directly to the scholarship awardee’s school account to meet college/university expenses.

Application Requirements:

  1. Application Form, signed.

  2. Transcript

    Please provide a recent transcript from your school’s Registrar’s Office. An unofficial copy is acceptable with this application during the pandemic.

  3. Two letters of recommendation (one must be from a professor)

    The letters of recommendation should address academic excellence, leadership skills, and community engagement. Your references should send their letter directly to Scholarship@metrodclinks.org.

  4. Essay

    Submit a statement regarding your goals and community service. The essay limit is 400 words.

  5. Financial Statement

    A statement of financial need from the Financial Aid Office will be required. This statement from the Financial Aid Office must state your Expected Family Contribution (EFC).

The scholarship awardees will be selected based on essay submission, overall academic excellence, and evidence of community service.

Note: Submitted documents must have all sensitive information (e.g., social security numbers) removed (i.e., blanked out, blackened out, made illegible, etc.) prior to submitting.

The 2022 – 2023 Scholarship winners are Logan Anderson (Lincoln University), Lakiyah Durham (Tuskegee University), Terren Lewis (Winston-Salem University), Nya Morgan (Spelman College), Nneka Okoro (Howard University), Cheynne Riley (Lincoln University), Gabrielle Rosser (Virginia State) and Nina Rutherford (Benedict College).
